Lighting Designer

Trinetra Manickavasagam has an undergraduate degree in Architecture and is a recent graduate of the MFA Lighting Design program at Parsons school of design. Work experience, in the architecture field and a lighting representative office in India, stemmed her interests towards Lighting Design as a career. She strongly believes that Light is so fundamental to everyone’s experience of space and is committed in telling that story visually, using light, to reveal the core principles of design and create a strong visual narrative, which then become an integral part of the final built form.

Extremely passionate about light, her education at Parsons and an internship at Tillotson Design Associates helped her gain extensive knowledge of various aspects of the field both in design and technology. Though her interests are more design inclined, her curiosity in the technical aspects of light encouraged her to explore through her thesis, a different realm of lighting: the technical and perceptual aspects of colour and dimming. Her thesis, “Studying potential colour shifts in White LED’s while dimming, in order to understand the measured aspects of correlated colour temperature (CCT) and other colour metrics”, won the IESNY thesis prize award this year which recognizes the lighting student for an outstanding thesis that most directly impact future lighting recommendations through initiative thinking coupled with technical rigor and is also presented as part of the IES Annual Conference 2020. She was also the recipient of the president’s scholarship for the master’s program at Parsons.
