

Sima Tawakoli
Well-Being Specialist and Application Designer
Currently, Sima Tawakoli is a senior Lighting consultant and well-Being Specialist at 16500 in Emeryville, CA. She is also the President of Illuminating Engineering Society San Francisco section and the chair for SF-LUX Illumination Award 2020. Her various talks on lighting design and its impact on human health are popular and she presents them in national and international conferences and seminars. Prior to joining 16500 she was working as an award- winning architect and designer at various design and architectural firms. Sima received a master’s degree in architecture and Urban Design and another in Design and Industry from SFSU. For her, lighting design is a creative process. “It’s like painting—but space becomes the canvas on which we are designing!” her work reflects the charm and simplicity of everyday life. Her love for design is prominent themes in the oeuvre. “The most important and most beautiful part of my life is the time I design my dreams”. One of her paintings received a first-place award from the City of Berkeley, was published as a large poster and installed in an AC Transit Station. Sima has had several exhibitions in Carmel, Berkeley and San Francisco. She’s an active member of IALD, IES an OWA.
