About this Course

The IES offers Educational Webinars throughout the year, purposefully spanning a broad range of topics and speaker expertise. This was a live webinar, now available as an archived webinar and CEU course. 

Description: The presentation will include an overview of typical theatrical lighting fixture types and their uses. This will include automated fixtures, the newest various LED fixtures, and numerous types of incandescent conventional fixtures that are still in use in large numbers. We will also look at some unique historic theatrical technology. An overview of traditional dimmer and newer relay-based power distribution requirements will be covered, and we will discuss basic DMX wiring scenarios and typical controller types. Lastly, we will briefly look at some advanced lighting technologies such as fixture tracking, DMX based media servers, video walls, and pixel mapping.

Billy Tubb, IES, Jr Associate IALD

Billy is a Theatre Consultant, Special Systems Engineer, Commercial Lighting Designer, as well as a Theatrical Lighting and Sound Designer. For 30 years he was the Technical Director of Popejoy Hall, working on over 6500+ live events such as Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Pavarotti, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. Billy served as the President of the Illuminating Engineering Society New Mexico chapter for 6 years, Chair and Vice-Chair of IES District 4, and is currently the South Regional Director and on the IES Board of Directors. Billy has a BFA in Technical Theatre and Design from the University of New Mexico.
