About this Course
The IES offers Educational Webinars throughout the year, purposefully spanning a broad range of topics and speaker expertise.
Description: Lighting professionals rely on the measurable properties of light to predict performance, communicate value, and make informed design decisions. This webinar explores the fundamental science of photometry and traces the lifecycle of an IES file — from laboratory testing to real-world application. Participants will develop a foundational understanding of how photometric measurements are captured, structured into IES files, and used to simulate, compare, and specify lighting solutions. Designed for a broad lighting audience, this session will help you build or refresh your understanding of photometry to better support accurate predictions and achieve design goals.
Key:
Jonathan Vollers
Jonathan is Lighting Certified and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Master of Business Administration. He spent 15 years in the aerospace industry before transitioning to the lighting field in 2012. Since then, he has led efforts across photometry and reliability labs, electrical and mechanical prototyping, safety compliance, and performance validation for Cree Lighting’s solid-state LED lamps and luminaires. His work ensures compliance with ENERGY STAR®, DesignLights Consortium®, Dark Sky International, California Energy Commission Title 20 and Title 24, and many other regulatory standards. In addition to his technical leadership, Jonathan actively contributes to the advancement of the lighting industry by presenting on key industry topics, and supports several professional organizations; including the NEMA Lighting Sections, the IES Testing Procedures Committee, and the NCQLP Test Examination Committee—all while continuing his impactful work at Cree Lighting.
