Description: The authors of three papers published in Leukos will present their work on various aspects of daylight and daylighting. The projects being showcased include: Sunlight Autonomy for Buildings: A New Methodology for Evaluating Sunlight Performance in Urban and Architectural Design, Heliotropic Shading: Daylighting a Rare Books Reading Room with Electrochromic Glass and Parametric Analysis, and Trees in Daylight Simulation – Measuring and Modelling Realistic Light Transmittance through Trees.

Arlind Dervishaj
Arlind Dervishaj is an architect and PhD candidate at KTH. His recent work focuses on daylighting, regenerative design, and circular economy for the built environment. He employs digital methodologies, such as computational methods, building information modeling (BIM), and simulations, to drive the transition of the built environment towards a more sustainable future.
Arlind is actively involved in teaching activities at KTH and contributes to ReCreate, an EU-funded project focused on reusing precast concrete for a circular economy. Before joining KTH, Arlind worked in Finland, where he led computational design initiatives at ARCO Architecture Company.
Dan Weissman
Dan Weissman is an architect, lighting designer, researcher, and educator. As the director of Lam Labs, Weissman leads Lam’s endeavors in digital tools, daylighting, and training. Weissman is chair of the IES Daylighting Committee and also participates on the IES Sustainable Design Committee and Solemma’s Climate Studio Product Advisory Group. An avid writer, Weissman’s peer-reviewed article “Heliotropic Shading” was recently published in LEUKOS. He periodically teaches lighting at Harvard Graduate School of Design and speaks regularly at schools and conferences.
Priji Balakrishnan
Priji Balakrishnan is a researcher and lecturer specializing in sustainable built environment design, focusing on daylighting design, analysis and prediction. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Architecture and Intelligent Living at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Chair of Lighting Technology at Technical University of Berlin (TUB), Germany. In 2021, she was awarded the European Commission's Research and Innovation Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship to research daylight colour and pattern across latitudes at TUB. Prior to her work in Berlin, Priji was an environmental consultant at Atelier Ten Singapore. Priji holds a PhD from the Singapore University of Technology and Design in Singapore, a Master’s from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Anna University in India.
